Infinum Evenings : Savouring life’s little moments – making it a regular practice

“The ability to respond to and recover from the challenges of daily living is a marker of well-being and depends on the actions of the autonomic nervous system.” Deb Dana, Polyvagal Exercises for Safety and Connection.

The autonomic nervous system has a spectrum that takes us to immobilisation on one end and safety and connection on the other.

  • When we feel threatened/unsafe to a point of terror, we shut down and dissociate.
  • When we sense a threat that can be tackled, we choose to fight/flee;
  • while in our safest state, we can connect and socially engage with the world/people around us.

On any given day, we move up and down this spectrum; while some of us may find ourselves stuck in one state more than the other.

Infinum Evenings : Savouring life’s little moments – making it a regular practice

Ragini Rao, Psychotherapist & Transactional Analyst  and

Krithika Akkaraju, Counsellor & Psychotherapist,

invite you to this upcoming session of Infinum Evenings on Sunday, 11th June, 2023,

to understand, discuss and explore the meaning of Savouring life’s little moments.

This workshop is an invitation to:

  1. Start becoming aware and recognise the basic functioning of your nervous system.
  2. Use this knowledge to intentionally create more opportunity for safety, connection and social engagement in your lives.

We will explore the concept of ‘savouring’ to start intentionally recognising and acknowledging the ventral vagal states of safety/thriving/connection.

Savouring is a process of attending to and appreciating positive life events

Trauma can disrupt the ability to savour; feeling negative in a normally positive moment can create secondary guilt and shame, guilt and an inability to experience joy. These set up an ongoing pattern of dis-regulation.

Building an active practice of savouring is a strategy that enables regulation, safety and connection. Savouring is linked to psychological resilience, positive health outcomes and a sense of wellbeing. Momentary savouring enhances positive mood, while an ongoing practice of savouring maintains level of happiness.

In this workshop we will explore ways that you can set up a ‘savouring strategy’ for your day to day life using snapshots, nature, art, music, movement, breathing and being able to identify ‘glimmers’ (micro moments of ‘safety’).
